Halogen Free Epoxy Adhesive Systems

Master Bond Supreme 11AOHT is a halogen free, two component epoxy resin system for high-performance bonding and sealing formulated to cure at room temperature. Its most outstanding features include high thermal conductivity, excellent electrical insulation properties, high-temperature resistance and superior bond strength. It is a toughened system that is well suited for applications requiring thermal cycling and chemical resistance. Supreme 11AOHT is widely used in the electronic, electrical, computer, metalworking, appliance, automotive and chemical industries where high bond strength and superior heat transfer properties are required.

Why Choose a Halogen Free Formulation?

Halogens, including Bromine and Chlorine, are highly reactive when ignited forming toxic and corrosive gases harmful to health and the environment. Initially, halogen free compounds were only required for consumer electronic and household appliance manufacturers, however the negative impact has caused a wave of change across many industries. These days there is also a high demand for halogen free polymer compounds in the aerospace and optical industries for various advanced manufacturing applications.

What is Considered Halogen Free?

Due to the concern of health and environmental issues caused by halogens, the International Electrochemical Commission (IEC) set forth a standard called IEC 61249-2-21, which defines halogen-free as the following:

  • Chlorine ¡Ü 900 ppm
  • Bromine ¡Ü 900 ppm
  • Total Halogens ¡Ü 1500 ppm

Master Bond offers adhesive, sealant and coating formulations that meet or exceed IEC 61249-2-21 standards. These include two component room temperature curing systems and one component UV/heat curing systems. Most importantly Master Bond's halogen free compounds are formulated without compromise to the high quality and performance known to Master Bond products.
