New Line of Abrasion Resistant Windows Feature ZC+R’s Anti-Reflective Coatings

Abrisa Technologies’ division, ZC&R Coatings for Optics is currently offering a new line of abrasion resistant windows that feature anti-reflective (AR) coatings. The AR coatings increase optical transmittance and eliminate image ghosting. The windows are custom designed to address customer needs.

Performance of optical window systems can be considerably minimized due to abrasion that results from poor cleaning procedures or common airborne particles like sand. Airborne chemicals, including carbonic acid, sulphuric acid, nitric acid, hydrogen sulfide and other corrosive elements can create stains and etches on exposed optical surfaces. ZC&R Coatings for Optics offers three levels of coatings to overcome these effects.

Level 1 signifies application of hardened AR coatings to conventional glass substrates that protects optical systems in less hostile operating environments. Level 1 coatings offer excellent optical performance and abrasion resistance compared to conventional windows. They are offered in a wide range of sizes.

Level 2 protection covers hardened AR coatings on rigid optical substrates. Level 2 coatings are resistant to corrosive chemicals, offer better optical performance than most spectral ranges and deliver enhance abrasion resistance. The coatings are available at a reasonable cost and are available in large apertures ranging up to 10” in diameter.

Level 3 indicates application of hardened AR coatings over sapphire laminated substrates for the most hostile operating environments. Level 3 coatings have the same features as level 2 coatings and in addition, it provides improved protection from ballistic damage. These coatings are offered in apertures varying up to 6” in diameter.

Applications of AR coated windows include handheld displays, LCD screens, digital signage, display monitors, menu boards, point-of-purchase (POP) displays, telescopes and camera lens systems. The AR coatings will enhance optical viewability and clarity, as well as improve the service lifetime of optical systems. Also, the coatings offer protection from weather and wear and tear resulting from chemicals. ZC&R’s coatings meet the MIL-C14806A, MIL-C-48497A, MIL-F-48616, MIL-C-675C and MIL-PRF-13830B specifications.
