20th AeroMat Conference Focuses on Advances in Materials Systems and Processes

Perspectives on materials for commercial, military and aerospace applications will provide the structure for the 20th year of the AeroMat Conference and Exposition, “Novel & Engineered Materials System & Processes for the Aerospace Industry.

The AeroMat event, covering novel and engineered materials systems and processes for the aerospace industry, is organized by ASM International, the materials information society, and sponsored by ATI Aerospace. The event will be hosted by the Air Force Research Laboratory at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, and will be held June 7-11 at the Dayton Convention Center in Dayton, Ohio.

AeroMat plenary speakers include participants from Boeing, DARPA, the Air Force Research Laboratory, the University of Michigan and Pratt & Whitney. Link to AeroMat Plenary Speakers:

  • As Vice President of Material & Process Technology for Boeing Commercial Aircraft, Dr. Dianne Chong leads the organization responsible for development and support of materials & processes and manufacturing development. She is also immediate past president of ASM International, the sponsoring society for AeroMat.
  • Dr. Leo Christodoulou, Deputy Director, DARPA DSO has applied his research expertise to developing revolutionary, new materials capabilities for the U.S. military.
  • Dr. Barry Farmer is Chief Scientist in the Air Force Research Laboratory’s Materials and Manufacturing Directorate. Prior to joining AFRL in 1998, he was Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Virginia. He has authored more than 160 publications on his research and is a Fellow of the American Physical Society.
  • Prof. Tresa Pollock, University of Michigan, is the Van Vlack Professor of Materials Science and Engineering. She graduated with a B.S. from Purdue University in 1984, and a Ph.D. from MIT in 1989.
  • Dr. Frank Preli, Chief Materials Engineer, Pratt & Whitney, has spent over 30 years at United Technologies Corporation developing and supporting advanced materials.
  • Led by AeroMat chairman Dr. Reji John, Air Force Research Laboratory, the conference technical program will consist of sessions on hybrid structures, advanced rotorcraft materials technology, titanium and its alloys, high temperature materials and coatings, light alloys, model development and implementation or validation, material and structural awareness and prognosis, welding and joining, and high strength steels.
