MERI (formerly MRI) is a dynamic interdisciplinary research institute based at Sheffield Hallam University, dedicated to addressing industrial problems through the application of fundamental science and engineering.
Our services include materials analysis, energy engineering, materials development and design, and engineering product support. We can work hands-on to help you complete a specific project or provide research and consultancy that forms the basis of your creative and technical approach.
MERI’s research and consultancy activities are supported by a large advanced equipment base ranging from the latest electron microscopes to high-performance computing hardware.
Relevant Research
MERI’s research covers a broad range of topics from semiconductors to concrete and from theoretical modeling to industrial applied coatings.
MERI’s specialize in research relevant to real life. The majority of our activities are focused on real commercial needs and many of our activities are sponsored by companies. This includes sponsorship from a broad range of sectors such as petrochemical, pharmaceutical, electronics, aerospace, automotive, biomedical, and many more.
Commercial Services (Consultancy)
At MERI we recognize the timescales and budgets under which industry operates and have set up commercial services to respond appropriately.
Our consultancy has a strong track record of working in the manufacturing industry alongside businesses and organizations of all shapes and sizes.
Our team of materials experts has worked on a range of projects, such as developing new coatings, including one that allows ships to cut through the sea with less resistance and so reduce fuel consumption. We have carried out research into how we can prevent corrosion in structures to make them last longer and have developed new building materials from waste. We have also designed compostable packaging materials.
Whatever you need for your business, our experts can help you find or develop the right materials. Please visit our website for more information.
