The reason we are at Pittcon is because we have got some analytical instruments that we are advertising and showing off to the delegation. We have two different types of products; residual gas analyzers, that are used for vacuum applications, and then atmospheric mass specs, which are used for a wide variety of gas sampling applications.
They are for individuals using Mass Spectrometry to help solve their problems.
Can you tell us about the products that you have got on show at Pittcon this year?
The newest product that we have is the Cirrus™ 3 platform. This is a particle mass spectrometer based system for sampling gasses, and it does not use chromatography. It allows people to get atomic mass measurements of gasses and measurements of gasses in real time very quickly.
The Cirrus™ 3 is brand new at the show. We are introducing this to the market this week, so it is very exciting.
How is the Cirrus™ 3 platform different to any others that are on the market?
There are some subtle variations in the design. We have a very well designed oven inside the mass spec., which allows stable temperature control and reliable readings. The software is also very powerful. It is customizable, and provides a lot of vis a vis for customers who are not particularly used to using mass spectrometry instrumentation.
Which industry and applications will see the real benefit from the new product that you are launching this week?
Lab based applications and catalysis are big areas of research. Fermentation, looking for off gassing from fermentation chamber, particularly in bio-pharmaceutical applications, and bio-processing. Essentially, all gas applications in industry. People doing air separation, looking for contaminates in specialist gasses for example. Freon detection is also another area.
MKS Instruments are at Booth 1553 at Pittcon 2018, drop by to learn more about the range of products they have on display.
