Arguably the most delicate part of an ion chromatography system is the column. Sample matrices contaminated with particles or bacteria pose a threat to it, as they may increase backpressure, reduce column performance, and even destroy it. So, it is highly recommended that before injection, samples are filtered.
A Better Option than Filter Cartridges
One possibility is filter cartridges, but the requirement to replace them after every injection makes this a costly and wasteful choice. Metrohm Inline Ultrafiltration is a better option. The Metrohm Ultrafiltration Cell 2 is at the heart of this fully automated solution.
It is now even more effective due to a new, optimized design, enabling the user to analyze even smaller sample volumes and use a Metrohm IC system uninterrupted for even longer periods of time.
Automated Filtration and Sample Injection
Metrohm provides a cost-efficient, quick alternative to manual filtration with Inline Ultrafiltration. It combines filtration with sample injection, integrating both steps into the fully automated analysis of samples. Metrohm Inline Ultrafiltration utilizes membrane filters with a pore size of 0.2 µm and it can be applied to multiple samples, in addition to blanks and standards.
By using this method, certainty and confidence can be achieved for measurements. Carry-over between samples is less than 0.1%. Only half as much sample as required previously is used for analysis because of the improved cell design, and it just takes a minute to exchange the filter membrane.
Benefits of the New Metrohm Ultrafiltration Cell
- 2x quicker exchange of the filter membrane
- 2x less sample volume for filtration results in extended life of the filter membrane
