Boiler Refractories for Power Generation Applications

The power industry has had to evolve, driven by factors such as increased demands, economics and the need to become more environmentally friendly. As a consequence of changing power generation technologies, refractory technologies have also had to change to keep up. Various refractories are required for industrial boilers depending on the specific part they are lining and the type of boiler employed such as package boilers, cyclone boilers, waste-to-energy units, CFB's, ash hoppers and others. This requires refractory manufacturers and suppliers to be able to supply a range of different refractories to suite the various applications, based on atmosphere and operating temperature.

Boilers

The basic function of a boiler is to burn fuel such as coal to superheat water to create steam. The figure below shows the basic schematic of a boiler and its various parts.
