Manufacture of heat sinks and precision machined electronic components for high-end applications require tools providing high repeatability and very low tolerances. Electronic packaging is done with several metals using precision CNC machining techniques. The metals generally used include light-weight aluminium that has a high thermal conductivity, titanium, which is also lightweight and delivers lower co-efficient of linear thermal expansion (CTE) and kovar packages with lower CTE, low thermal capability and direct sealing features.
Precision Machined Electronic Packages from Formagrind
Precision machined electronic packages and heat sinks are manufactured by Formagrind for applications such as aerospace, defence, space and telecommunications.
These are very complex components and are machined under stringent quality controlled conditions and, if required, under additional SPC.
The materials worked with include the following:
- Copper tungsten
- Aluminium
- Titanium
- Kovar
Osprey controlled expansion alloys are also machined as a sub-contractor to Sanvik Osprey or even under direct contract with customers.
A wide range of platings such as gold and nickel are arranged under tightly controlled conditions. On customer’s request, other operations are also arranged. Typical orders range from quick turnaround prototypes to long-term support contracts.
