Background
Strontium titanate (SrTiO3) has a perovskite structure like CaTiO3, the mineral from which the name was derived. At room temperature it exists in thew cubic form, but transforms into the tetragonal structure at temperatures less than 105K.
At very low temperatures, strontium titanate exhibits piezoelectric and superconducting characteristics.
Strontium titanate also exhibits a very large dielectric constant.

Applications
Strontium titanate finds applications in varistors, while thin strontium titanate films are used in tunable HTS (high temperature superconducting) microwave filters.
