Advanced Abrasives manufactures superabrasive diamond and cBN powders in sizes extending down into the sub-micron/nanometer particle size range.
Powders with particle sizes of 0.5µm (500nm) and smaller tend to agglomerate easily and very tightly when dried. To prevent this, the company processes the finest sizes of diamond and cBN powders directly from the water classification process into de-ionized (D.I.) water as a carrier at a dispersion concentration of 10 wt%.
For customer applications that are water sensitive, other choices of liquid carrier, such as alcohol, are offered as a dispersant medium. Although sold dispersed in a liquid medium, the unit of measure is carat weight of diamond powder - the same as for the dry diamond powders.
The standard particle sizes of diamond and cBN superabrasive powders supplied pre-wetted in D.I. water are 0.5µm, 0.375µm, 0.25µm, 0.125µm, 0.1µm, 0.05µm and 0.025µm (500nm, 375nm, 250nm, 125nm, 100nm, 50nm and 25nm).
Applications are varied and include; fine polishing of hard materials and wear resistant coatings.
