Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) is an important tool for routine core analysis as well as SCAL. Most measurements are performed at ambient pressure and temperature; however, it is becoming more and more crucial to perform measurements at as close to reservoir environment as possible. In order to carry out this, an NMR-compatible core holder is required, but current designs have severe restrictions on either NMR performance or sample handling.
The P5 Cells take away these restrictions and enable users to perform NMR measurements at reservoir conditions. The cells are designed and developed with a focus on performance and usability and enable users to pressurize samples with a confining pressure of up to 5,000 psi. The P5 Cells, exclusive to the GeoSpec series of NMR rock core analyzers, employ state-of-the-art materials to enable the NMR coil to be closer to the sample without compromising the performance of the GeoSpec.
The P5 Cells take full advantage of the industry-leading performance of the GeoSpec series of instruments, as the only pressure vessels specifically designed with Q-Sense technology. Q-Sense offers high signal-to-noise ratios and short echo spacings, resulting in enhanced measurement of fluids in smaller pores, increasing the ability of the P5 cell to carry out measurements on tight rocks from unconventional reservoirs.
Exclusive Features of the P5 Cell
- Enables fast loading/unloading of samples via the twist-lock lid
- Low background signals for effective measurements on low volume samples, for example, shales
- Can be held at pressure outside the instrument
- NMR coil embedded in the cell - enabling faster and more accurate measurements
A single sample can no longer monopolize the NMR instrument for weeks or days. The P5 Cells enable the sample to be pressurized from inside as well as outside the instrument. It is possible to insert and remove the pressurized samples from the instrument without depressurizing, thus eradicating pressure cycling problems. The cells are equipped with pressure fittings at the top and bottom, enabling users to conduct pressure flow studies.
The company’s highest priority is the safety of the user. The P5 Cell is the first of its kind in the industry; its secondary containment system offers unparalleled protection in a pressurized environment. All cells are CE certified and tested to make sure that the highest quality and safety standards are satisfied.
