Maintaining uniform thickness is a critical component of the performance of food packaging and barrier layers in laminated products. The Thermo ScientificTM 21PlusHD Measurement and Control System allows manufacturers to minimize the thickness variation of the web to ensure packaging products preserve food quality and prolong shelf life.
The scalable solution also enables manufacturers to save raw materials and decrease start-up while maintaining the production of high-performance food packaging products.
System Components
The system consists of one or multiple scanners, sensors and a console tailored to your application.
Sensors
The sensors are application matched to materials in the web, web structure, process environment and measurement requirements such as thickness, basis weight or moisture. The system supports the full range of web gauging sensor technologies such as infrared, optical, nuclear and X-Ray.
Advanced Application Controls
The system includes many specific control algorithms:
- Machine Direction (MD) control to maintain the target thickness or weight of the product.
- Target Management Control (TMC) delivers process optimization for raw material savings by shifting targets to the minimum acceptable quality value.
- Auto Profile Control (APC) maintains the thickness, shape and weight profile by supervising the heating power of extrusion die bolts.
Instrument Performance Management (IPM)
IPM delivers 24/7 remote monitoring of the instrument's health, status and performance. With configurable notifications and advanced diagnostics, critical issues are identified in near real-time, allowing customers to achieve faster incident response times, higher uptime, and greater productivity.
