The surface alignment of liquid crystal 4¡ä-n-pentyl-4-cyanobiphenyl multilayers formed by evaporation on photoalignment polyvinylcinnamate (PVCi) film was observed by means of novel three¨Cdimensional (3-D) surface profiler instrument.

Fracture Toughness of Si3N4/S45C Joint with an Interface Crack

Fracture toughness tests were carried out on Si3N4/S45C joint specimens with interface cracks of different lengths. Evaluation of fracture path and fracture toughness was carried out based on elasto-plastic analysis in which S45C steel was assumed as a linear hardening material.

The Localized Hydrothermal Technique: A New Method for Growing Barium Titanate Films at Atmospheric Pressure

A novel method called Localized Hydrothermal Technique for growing coatings of barium titanate or other complex oxides on titanium. In this method, thin films grow on transition metal substrates by Joule heating of the substrate while it is immersed in an aqueous alkali-earth hydroxide solution.

Preparation and Characterization of Li1-xNi1+xO2 Powder Used as Cathode Materials

Electromagnetic Numerical Characterization of the Laser-Induced Liquid Crystal Lens By Finite-Difference Time Domain Method

The effectiveness of the FDTD method for a liquid-crystal device was investigated. The light propagation characteristics of the laser-induced LC lens formed by the photothermal effect that is the most basic in non-linear optics effect was analyzed.

The Influence of Heat Treatment on Magnetoresistance Effect in Granular Cu-Co Alloys Prepared by Rapid Quenching

Cu(100 - x)Cox alloys (x = 8 – 20 at%) prepared by rapid quenching and subsequent heat treatment consist of nanosized ferromagnetic Co particles embedded in non-ferromagnetic phase of Cu. These magnetically heterogeneous granular structures exhibit the giant magnetoresistance effect (GMR).

High Temperature Oxidation of MgO Composites with Ni Particle Dispersion

Oxidation behavior of MgO-based composites with 5 vol% Ni particles was investigated at high temperatures in air. The oxidized zone consisted of (Mg,Ni)O solid solution. Growth of the oxidized region followed the parabolic law, meaning that mass transport in the oxidized zone was rate-controlled.
