Kobe Steel to Combine Environmental Businesses with Shinko Pantec

Kobe Steel and its subsidiary Shinko Pantec are looking to consolidate the environmental business of Kobe Steel with Shinko Pantec in January 2004. The aim of this move would be to concentrate the management resources of the environmental businesses to strengthen and develop the environmental business of Kobe Steel.

For the deal to go ahead, the two must come to an agreement by May 2003.

A united front is expected to benefit from a stronger base, while business will benefit from a broader range of products and improved cost competitiveness. Development will also benefit from streamlined research efforts and higher development capabilities.

Kobe Steel’s Environmental Solutions division specialises in dealing with solid waste with furnaces, water waste, PVC recycling, soil decontamination and biomass.
