LG Philips Displays today announced that it would close its colour display tube factory in Lebring, Austria.
The closure has been brought about by a global downturn in the economy and a general decline in the IT industry. This follows the announcement of plans to close its colour television tube factory in Ohio, USA, with production to be transferred to LG Philips new production facility on Gomez Palacio, Mexico, which opened in December last year.
560 employees will be affected by the closure of the Austrian plant as well as another 120 with agency contracts. The closure is expected to be complete by the end of 2002.
