China’s Baoshan Iron and Steel to Supply Ford with Steel Sheet

China’s largest steel producer, Baoshan Iron & Steel have secured an export contract that will see them supply sheet steel to Ford in Europe. The contract was secured after trials shipments met with quality standards.

While the contract helps Baoshan to diversify from its domestic market, the quantity that they will be supplying to Ford makes up less than 5% of their European flat carbon steel requirements for the year.

Baoshan currently supplies about 60% of China’s steel sheet requirements but they would like to supply more sheet steel to European car manufacturers which will shield them from the effects of a slowing Chinese market should that take place.

They are also trying to position themselves for significant growth in the supply of European car makers, hoping to overtake some of their rivals in the coming years.
