Bayer MaterialScience and the Changzhou Coatings Research Institute participated in a signing ceremony for cooperation to promote the waterborne coatings industry throughout China.
The partnership between the two market leaders will allow for a number of activities including forums and conferences between the industry and government; benefiting the Chinese waterborne coating industry whilst also promoting the environment through emission reduction under China’s 11th Five-Year Program.
Commenting on the signing, Mr. Li Xilin, Marketing Director for Business Unit Coatings and Adhesives at Bayer MaterialScience in Greater China, said: “We both understand that a push in waterborn coating is needed, now we join the forces for the same beliefs.”
“As a new alternative, waterborne coatings need time to spread the awareness and there are always someone to take the lead against the wind. We both want to be the pioneer in this, we committed to it not only this year as 'year of waterborne promotion', but many years of hard work to come,” added Mr. Li.
Utilized at the Chinese Olympic National Aquatics Center - with 670 square meters of waterborne polyurethane floor coating systems provided by Bayer MaterialScience – The company’s coatings offers a more environmentally responsible alternative to conventional coating materials. With the environment in mind, Bayer MaterialScience is also seeing its coating materials being harnessed at the Olympic National Stadium, the Bird's Nest, and also on Shanghai's Lupu Bridge - the world's longest.
In a November 2007, interview on Phoenix TV’s ‘Business Impulse’ program – part of Bayer MaterialScience’s campaign to promote environmentally-friendly coating materials – Mr. Li said: “In a rapidly growing economy like China, where environmental protection has become a major concern for all Chinese citizens and is recognized as a national priority by China’s government, waterborne polyurethane coating systems provides an ideal solution.”
Mr. Zhang Junzhi, President of Changzhou Coatings Research Institute, said of the signing: “As the China Research Institute strongly believes that waterborne coatings are the way forward in the coatings industry, partnering with Bayer MaterialScience – a market leader in this area – is a natural combination that will best serve the Chinese coatings industry.”
“The China Research Institute shares with Bayer MaterialScience its commitment to emission reduction under China’s 11th Five-Year Program. We look forward to working together – and with government – to help achieve China’s emission reduction objectives,” Mr. Zhang further added.
Bayer MaterialScience’s Coatings, Adhesives and Sealants (CAS) business unit will meet the anticipated rise in demand for waterborne coatings in China and the region, through ramping up its production capabilities at the Bayer Integrated Site Shanghai. These expansions will enable the company to offer reliable and long-term supply to its customers in the region and to keep pace with market growth.
The campaign is expected to reach out the industry with the extensive media and on-line resource of Changzhou Coatings Research Institute.
