Plastic-Coated Tarpaulin Roof For Athens Olympic Pool

The Olympic Pool that will host the Olympic Games in Athens, Greece later this year will get a plastic-coated tarpaulin roof after having previously been granted permission to host the event in an open air pool as was the case in Barcelona and Atlanta in 1992 and 1996.

The Greek Olympic Committee bowed to pressure placed by international broadcasters who claimed TV images would be clearer under a roof.

The tarpaulin roof suspended from four steel pylons was the second choice, taken after it became clear that the contractor tasked with building a permanent roof would not be able to deliver the goods on time. The tarpaulin roof design will be open at both ends allowing air circulation during the heat of August.
