Corus Panels and Profiles composite panel roofing and wall systems – Superdeck® and Trimapanel®– have contributed to the construction of the Ideal Homes Eco-House which formed the central attraction at this years show.
Designed by renowned concept designer John Prewer, the Ideal Homes Show Eco-House showcases how eye-catching pragmatic solutions are available to address issues including climate change, the depletion of fossil fuels, as well as adapting to new building regulations and changing lifestyle requirements of households in the 21st century.
Superdeck and Trimapanel – Corus Panels and Profiles roofing and wall composite panel systems for all building envelope applications – both bring significant benefits to the environmental performance of the EcoHouse which has been designed to achieve Code for Sustainable Homes Level 6 rating.
Trimapanel – an LPCB and FM approved PIR composite walling system – provides excellent thermal performance and resistance to air permeability, whilst Superdeck incorporates an IPS Rubberfuse single ply membrane to provide exceptional waterproofing and impressive air permeability ratings that exceed the requirements of current building regulations.
Olli Blair from DRP Architects who developed the detailed design of the John Prewer concept for the Eco-House comments: “The Ideal Homes Eco-House has been designed to achieve Code for Sustainable Homes Level 6 rating. The panels provide the weatherproofing and first layer of insulation to the building allowing the rest of the frame to be filled out with further insulating material – ultimately enabling the Eco-House to achieve a higher energy efficiency performance.”
Derek Eades, Business Development Manager for Corus Panels and Profiles comments: “The innovative Eco-House is a shining example of how sustainable building products can be incorporated into a creative build that is affordable and fully compliant with the code for sustainable homes. Providing superb energy efficiency, both Trimapanel and Superdeck contribute to reducing the end-users energy requirements and fuel consumption by association – bringing significant savings.”
Eades continues: “ Furthermore, Corus is one of the first companies in the industry to implement lifecycle thinking into our product design and process. Each product is also CFC/HCFC free, therefore, in terms of both the manufacture process and building performance Trimapanel and Superdeck both provide creative and dynamic solutions for the creation of sustainable homes for the 21st century.”
A single storey family home built around a central courtyard – the Eco-House has been designed to provide accommodation including dining and sitting rooms, three bedrooms and two en-suite bedrooms to suit the requirements of the average family. However, intrinsic to the design principals behind its creation was the need for the house to be able to cater for the end-user’s changing requirements over time. To this end the layout of the Eco-House can be reconfigured in just five days to create two affordable units for the first-time buyer market that are ready for occupancy.
