On July 1, 2008 Elke Eckstein took up her new post as Chief Operating Officer (COO) at OSRAM Opto Semiconductors GmbH in Regensburg.
Her predecessor Jörg Thäle held this post from 2006 to April 2008 and has moved to the parent company OSRAM where he is now CEO of the Low Pressure Discharge Business Unit.
Elke Eckstein’s career has been closely associated with the semiconductor sector. She brings more than 25 years of experience in the semiconductor sector to her new position as well as extensive specialist knowledge. Most recently she was Vice President Manufacturing at AMD in Dresden where she was responsible for day to-day operations at the world’s most efficient semiconductor factory, F30/38. In her new function Elke Eckstein assumes responsibility for worldwide production – a crucial key position in the rapidly growing semiconductor sector.
Elke Eckstein also has several years of experience in management roles in prominent semiconductor manufacturers. Before moving to AMD, for example, she was Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for three years at ALTIS Semiconductor, a joint venture between IBM and Infineon. As COO at OSRAM Opto Semiconductors, this native Franconian is returning to her professional roots because she started her career in the Semiconductor Division of Siemens in Munich, to which OSRAM Opto Semiconductors belongs through its parent company OSRAM. She had already shown her strengths in technology development and product engineering at ProMOS Technology, an earlier joint venture between Infineon and Mosel Vitelic based in Taiwan.
