Singapore to Introduce Plastic $10 Notes

Singapore will introduce plastic notes into their currency as of Tuesday.

This is the second denomination to use plastics. In 1990, Singapore introduced plastic $50 notes in limited numbers. However, the limited introduction of 5 million made them somewhat of a collectors item and many have consequently disappeared from circulation.

The new notes will have a similar appearance to the existing paper notes, but will incorporate a number of added safety features and improvements over the plastic $50 notes and current paper notes. The new notes will have clear windows in 2 corners. They will also have a stylised gold Singapore lion symbol with hidden image. This consists of the Singapore Arms which will only be visible form certain angles. In addition, the normal security thread is now takes the shape of Singapore island.
