Siemens to Power Up the New "Dubailand" Theme Park

As part of the expansion of the power supply network in the United Arab Emirates, Siemens Energy is delivering four turnkey high voltage substations for the planned “Dubailand” theme park.

The customer is the infrastructure developer Tatweer. The order has a volume of approximately EUR95 million.

The delivery package includes eight high voltage switchgear bays per substation, medium voltage technology and the necessary protection and control technology, including planning, engineering, logistics, construction and assembly and also commissioning. Opening in 2010, the “Dubailand” theme park is expected to contribute positively to attracting up to 15 million visitors to Dubai a year with arts, culture, sports, shopping and hotel complexes. “The scale of the projects in this rapidly growing region is impressive. Infrastructure developers such as Tatweer expect the very highest standards when it comes to quality and delivery times. We’re contributing to the success of these ambitious projects with innovative power transmission solutions,” commented Udo Niehage, CEO of the Power Transmission Division in the Siemens Energy Sector.

This latest order marks another milestone for Siemens Energy, which has seen steady growth in business in the Gulf region. Over the past few years, orders for more than 50 turnkey transformer substations have been received from Dubai alone. Siemens is involved in practically all major projects in the Emirate with its power supply solutions, including the “Burj Dubai” skyscraper, the waterfront developing project “Dubai Waterfront” and the three artificial islands in the shape of palm trees.
