The use of DuPont™ SentryGlas® Plus structural interlayer in laminated SGG Stadip safety glass from Saint-Gobain Glass has helped lighten the structure of the Chapelle des Diaconesses in France.
The building opens up to the environment through the subtle interplay of glass and wood. The building faced considerable wear and tear and French architect Marc Rolinet was asked to renovate it. To replace the tent structure that previously served as a chapel, Rolinet’s architectural design brought solid simplicity in its shapes and materials - a combination of wood and glass.
He came up with an organically shaped chapel which curls up inside a voluminous glass structure with a triangular base. The lightweight structure consists of two units in wood and glass, whereby SentryGlas® is used in the laminated safety glass for the two façades and the roof.
“I immediately realized how useful SentryGlas® would be and insisted on using this material right from the start,” Rolinet said. “The material is much more attractive than conventional laminated glass. It gives the facades a mirror-like effect, while the transparency is maintained.”
