Nikon Release New Inverted Metallurgical Microscope for Inspection and Analysis

An inverted metallurgical microscope designed specifically for inspection and analysis has been launched by Nikon Instruments.

Combining an innovative ergonomic design with a reduced footprint, the Eclipse MA200 incorporates an integrated intelligent nosepiece, making it ideal for inspection, QC, evaluation, measuring and analysis of key parameters in metallic and electronic components in the automotive, electronics and materials-related industries. Optimised for digital imaging and ergonomic efficiency, the MA200 can be connected to a range of Nikon digital cameras and configured with imaging software for seamless, comprehensive image and data acquisition and processing.

The new cube-shape design of the MA200 body requires one-third less surface space than the conventional model, while improving operability by placing primary controls in front. The ease of use and accessibility of the objective lens and sample eliminates the stress caused by long hours of operation.

The renowned Nikon CFI60 optics system delivers bright, clear, high resolution images with superior contrast and minimal flare. The newly developed 1X objective lens enables macro observation with actual field view of 25mm, making it possible to view the whole area of an embedded metallurgical sample. A new 40X metallurgical objective joins the existing range of high magnification objectives such as the 50X and 100X. In addition, the MA200 offers a wide range of contrast methods including episcopic-brightfield, episcopic-darkfield, DIC, simple polarizing and episcopic fluorescence, with an option for diascopic transmitted light illumination.

Digital imaging capabilities are optimised for ease of use. The intelligent manual nosepiece system outputs the objective position and internal magnification data to the digital camera and PC-based control units. Image sizes are automatically calibrated when the objective magnification is changed. Optional functions in the NIS-Elements software enable the stitching and analysis of larger images and automated particle analysis. Additionally, by combining the Nikon Metalo software module (grain sizing and cast iron), the system can be optimised for JIS and ASTM standard compliant metallurgical analysis.

Robust and energy efficient, the Eclipse MA200 supersedes the current TME300 and TME200 models, offering greater flexibility and automation, enabling faster analysis.
