EPMA Announce This Year's Winner of the Excellence in PM Awards

The winners of this year’s EPMA Excellence in PM Awards were honoured at the Euro PM2008 Congress & Exhibition opening plenary ceremony in Mannheim, Germany. Over 500 people were in attendance to see the prizes presented for the two award categories, PM/MIM Components and Materials/Production Equipment.

The competition, which is open to all EPMA member companies, is judged by a panel of experts who gave marks to each of the entries using the following five criteria:

  • Excellence in exploiting PM
  • Novelty, that is surpassing borders or bringing new ideas into practice
  • Stimulation of further usage of PM technology
  • To what extent is the Product expected to provide cost savings or improved quality?
  • Preparation of the Entry.

The standard of entries received was very high from companies across the PM industry. The outcome of the 2008 EPMA Awards for Excellence in Powder Metallurgy was as follows:

Category Components:

Award of Merit - Schunk Sintermetalltechnik GmbH, Germany - “Brake Band”
Highly Commended: Parmaco Injection Molding AG, Germany - “MicroMIM carrier with sun gear”.

Category Materials/Production Equipment:

Award of Merit - Hoeganaes Corporation - “Ancorsteel® 30 HP”
Highly Commended: Sintex a/s, Denmark - “STX2000 new alloy for stainless components”

“This year, as in many previous years, has been a difficult year for the judges to decide upon the overall winning entries as the overall standard of entries has been very high” said Jonathan Wroe, EPMA’s Executive Director. He added “We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the EPMA Member companies that entered this year’s Awards for Excellence in Powder Metallurgy, as without their continued support the competition could not be what it is.”
