Mr. Mitchell R. Dorfman, Director of Ceramics, Materials Development for Sulzer Metco (US) Inc., Westbury, New York, has been elected President of the ASM Thermal Spray Society (TSS) and will serve a two-year term through September 2010. Mr. Dorfman has been involved in the thermal spray industry for nearly 30 years working with vendors, OEM's universities, research institutions and job shops.
The author of more than 50 technical papers and holder of 14 patents, Mr. Dorfman has developed numerous materials for the turbine and industrial markets in thermal spray. He has received the Distinguished Alumni Award from the Center of Thermal Spray Research at SUNY of Stony Brook. He has also served as session chair at TSS technical conferences, organized technical sessions, reviewed technical papers for the Journal of Thermal Spray Technology, taught thermal spray classes at events and conferences, and organized special workshops dedicated to specific thermal spray topics.
Mr. Charles M. Kay, Vice President of Marketing for ASB Industries, Barberton, Ohio, has been elected TSS Vice President. He has served as chairman of the TSS Membership, Marketing and Outreach Committee and as a member of the TSS Website Committee. He has also participated on many TSS projects including the development of the society’s Accepted Practice documents and the new SprayTips e-newsletter. Mr. Kay will succeed Mr. Dorfman as President of TSS in October 2010.
Mr. William J. Lenling, Vice President and Materials Engineer at Thermal Spray Technologies, Inc., Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, has been named TSS Secretary/Treasurer. He is a co-founder of TST, which has grown from a single employee to more than 80 employees. He headed development of the TSS Handbook of Thermal Spray Technology while serving as chair of the TSS Training Committee. Mr. Lenling has received three best paper awards at TSS conferences, and holds four patents.

Mr. Thomas S. Passek serves as Executive Director for TSS. Mr. Passek is Associate Managing Director for ASM International, The Materials Information Society, based in Materials Park, Ohio.
