In a series of programs spotlighting innovative local companies, Dutch regional TV has recently featured Almelo-based analytical X-ray specialists, PANalytical. In one program, students were set a seasonal challenge – to identify which Christmas chocolate had been contaminated with a sleep-inducing drug. The chocolate was successfully analyzed using PANalytical’s X’Pert PRO Multi-Purpose Diffractometer (MPD), one of the most technically advanced, versatile and cost-effective X-ray diffraction (XRD) solutions available today.
Peter Munk, marketing manager, PANalytical, commented: “This was a fun experiment, but it’s actually a very good illustration of how the power of X-ray analysis can help with real-world problems. Technological developments at PANalytical are taking X-ray analysis out of its roots in research, establishing the technique in process and quality control.”
XRD plays an increasing role in a broad range of research and industrial applications. Sample preparation is extremely straightforward, with many materials analyzed in their original state. Importantly, analysis is fast and non-destructive.
PANalytical provides analytical solutions for many material types - not just chocolate. More mainstream applications include the analysis of metals, minerals, plastics, pharmaceuticals and semiconductors. The company’s systems are supported by an extensive range of powerful application software and an unrivalled global sales and support network.
