Cutting Edge Technologies for Plastics Recycling and Recovery - Key Topics

Only two weeks to go until IdentiPlast opens its doors at Concert Noble in Brussels. This year’s event will definitely be the key occasion in 2009 where cutting-edge advances in recycling and recovery technologies for plastics are not only identified, but also openly discussed.

Already the first issue of day one, i.e. the waste framework directive, promises lively and controversial discussions. While Karolina Fras from DG Environment will give a view from the European Commission, Paul Augustowski, President and CEO of BasellOrlen Polyolefins, will express what the industry expects. After that Jean-Pierre Hannequart will heat up the discussion even more. The president of the Association of Cities and Regions for Recycling and Sustainable Resource management will talk about the expectations of local authorities. Coming from an international network promoting “prevention at source, reuse and recycling”, he has already announced that he will bring “precise targets for the re-use and recycling of the main plastic items” into discussion. Other items on the long list of topics are, to name just some, the WEEE directive revision; recycling under REACH and recyclates in food contact and bioplastics.

IdentiPlast 2009 is sure to be a golden opportunity you simply can’t let go to... waste. The detailed programme for the 7th IdentiPlast conference, that runs from 20 to 21 of April, and which offers a visit to recycling and sorting facilities on 22, is available at www.plasticseurope.org.
