Dozens of drywall lawsuits have already been filed in courts nationwide against major homebuilders and drywall distributors located in the U.S., Germany and China. These cases allege that fly ash incorporated into the manufacturing process of some drywall products leach sulphuric gases that can dissolve copper pipes, electrical wiring and air conditioner heating elements and pose a threat to residents' health.
According to the lawsuits, contaminated drywall panels may have been installed in tens of thousands of homes across the country since 2004. And, while this litigation is in its infancy, a panel of federal judges is already considering the creation of a consolidated multi-district court docket to handle the expected flood of claims.
