Goodyear Announce $50m Expansion into Colombia

The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company today announced a $50-million expansion at its Cali, Colombia, manufacturing plant to produce radial medium truck tires. The investment solidifies Goodyear's commitment to the growth of Colombian exports in certain Latin American countries, according to Eduardo Fortunato, president of Goodyear's Latin America region.

The expansion will include several phases, the first one expected to begin soon and the final to be completed by 2006. The tiremaker's subsidiary, Goodyear de Colombia SA, celebrated its 60th anniversary in June.

The company has begun continuous operations in Colombia and created more than 100 new job positions to improve plant competitiveness as key markets expanded in Latin America.

Fortunato said the expansion satisfies a growing Colombian automotive market as well as other Latin American markets, which include Mexico, Venezuela, Ecuador and Chile.

"Growth in the Colombian tire market is encouraging, and new opportunities created by radial medium truck tire manufacturing and sales are exciting propositions," he said.
