Illig Hosts Open House to Demonstrate Thermoforming Solutions

Innovative system solutions for the packaging industry, aimed at increasing performance and efficiency in the thermoforming of plastics, form the centrepiece of the Open House to be hosted by ILLIG at its headquarters in Heilbronn, Germany, from 21 to 24 September 2009. Expert papers on the latest in thermoforming technology, as well as machine demonstrations of a range of current applications under genuine production conditions, await the trade visitors expected to attend from around the world.

The presentations will be held in German during the first two days of the event, the third and fourth days will be held in English for its international audience. Now into its tenth time, the Open House will be held at ILLIG's new customer centre at its premises in Heilbronn, which, following its completion, will be hosting its first official event.

Core themes of this year's exhibit are the latest technical standards and benefits of system solutions from ILLIG for the high-volume production of plastic packaging in almost every shape and size. Particular emphasis will be placed on the current 3rd generation of thermoforming machines and tools from the RDK/RDKP and RDM-K series. Compared to previous standards, these systems achieve considerably higher cycle speeds at simultaneously improved levels of energy efficiency and product quality. The field of application for automatic pressure forming machines from the RDK series for combined forming/punching operation, or from the RDKP series for separate forming and punching, ranges from the production of hinged packs through to meal trays and lids. The principal application of machines from the RDM-K series is the thermoforming of cups in almost every shape and size with multicavity tools.

Of the 1,800m2 newly-constructed floor space at ILLIG's headquarters, which has become the architectural face of the company, over 700m2 have been dedicated to its customer centre. This area has been divided into a conference room, equipped with the state-of-the-art multimedia technology, and multipurpose meeting rooms. This modern facility will also be the venue for training courses, regularly held in Heilbronn for industrial users, on the basics and practical implementation of thermoforming. Because the specialist area of thermoforming is currently barely or insufficiently covered by the curricula of universities and technical colleges, ILLIG is seeking to meet this ongoing training requirement through its own commitment as a reputable and responsible machinery supplier.
