Noliac Motion and AugustaWestland Helicopters Ltd. have jointly developed and manufactured prototypes providing an effective reduction of vibration levels in helicopters. The project will be presented at the 'Piezoelectric actuation' seminar at the Institution of Mechanical Engineers on October 22nd 2009.
Novel actuator design
The field of active rotor control through the use of trailing edge flaps has been widely covered in the literature. Although the benefit of reducing the vibration levels by up to 80% is widely recognised, no application has reached commercial success up to now. Noliac Motion and AgustaWestland Helicopters Ltd have worked jointly on the development of a more effective solution.
After a study of the literature, a new actuator design was developed, providing improved performance for a minimum mass. Prototypes have been manufactured and tested.
'Piezoelectric actuation' seminar
At the'Piezoelectric actuation' seminar at the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, R&D Engineer at Noliac Motion, Charles Mangeot, will present the project.
Contents of the presentation:
- Analysis of approaches to active trailing edge flaps
