ContiTech Produces Five Millionth Square meter of Printing Blanket

ContiTech Elastomer Coatings has produced its five millionth square meter of printing blanket at its Waltershausen plant. "This milestone is a two-fold success," says Dr. Thomas Perkovic, head of the printing blanket segment at ContiTech. "It is a clear demonstration of our quality that has been recognized by the customers, while also underscoring the significance of the Waltershausen plant."

In 1993, the first PHOENIX Xtra BLANKETS brand printing blankets were developed in Waltershausen, and one year later the first square meter was sold. PHOENIX Xtra BLANKETS is one of the world's leading printing blanket brands for offset printing. In the meanwhile, the printing blankets that some 80 employees manufacture each week using eco-friendly calendering processes and state-of-the-art technologies would cover an area the size of a football field.

Participants in the milestone event on August 21, 2009, included Thuringia's Economics minister Jürgen Reinholz, Continental Executive Board member Heinz-Gerhard Wente, ContiTech Executive Board member Meinhard Liebing, and Heiko Eymer, general manager of ContiTech Elastomer Coatings.
