North American Residential Roofing Materials Market to be Worth over $5 Billion by 2014

According to a new technical market research report, RESIDENTIAL ROOFING MATERIALS: THE NORTH AMERICAN MARKET (AVM070A) from BCC Research, the North American market for residential roofing materials is worth an estimated $3.9 billion in 2009, but is expected to increase to more than $5 billion in 2014, for a 5-year compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5.3%.

The largest segment of the market, lightweight (LW) laminate shingles, is expected to reach more than $1.8 billion in 2014, after increasing at a CAGR of 2% from the estimated 2009 value of nearly $1.7 billion.

The three-tab shingles segment is the second-largest and is expected to increase from a value of $663 million in 2009 to $732 million in 2014, for a CAGR of 2%.

The third-largest segment in 2009, concrete tile, is projected to increase at a CAGR of 16.4% through 2014, rising from $437 million to more than $933 million.

This market research report includes a comprehensive analysis of all residential roofing products used in the North American market. It provides the latest in product developments, material, and technology enhancements, as well as a detailed look at the various distribution channels and their dynamics.

Although hard hit by the recent economic downturn (decreasing from a value of $5.3 billion in 2008 to an estimated $3.9 billion in 2009), the industry remains a vital part of the economy and an important component in achieving and maintaining the American dream of home ownership.

The range of products currently on the market is very broad. There are many smaller producers today that have the capability of growing into major brands tomorrow. Some of these future success stories will ride the wave of demand for new products such as building-integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) roofing products that are increasingly finding their way into the mainstream of roofing alternatives.

This report is intended to provide necessary background and reference material for individuals involved in, or potentially interested in, the North American roofing industry. This includes individuals and organizations involved in the development, formulation, manufacture, sale and use of roofing products, and related and ancillary businesses, such as raw material suppliers, consultants, distributors, contractors, and builders.
