DuPont Performance Coatings (DPC) has developed a field-training process that trains customers to comply with new U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requirements. The EPA established a collision repair campaign to control the emissions of targeted Hazardous Air Pollutants (HAPs) in collision centers and the surrounding communities. By 2011, more than 60,000 repair shop owners in the U.S. will have to follow the new rule.
Similar to training offered at DuPont Refinish Systems Training Centers, field training covers the basic requirements for collision centers, including:
- Collision center initial notification that it is a HAPs source to the EPA.
- Collision center compliance notification to the EPA that it has received the required training and completed the performance evaluation portion of certification.
- Paint technician training.
- Collision center record-keeping requirements.
DPC provides more details and available training sessions on its website. Specific information includes:
- A summary of regulations.
- Frequently asked questions.
- HAPs identification.
- Field-training for paint technicians.
- A video developed by the EPA featuring Jeff Gordon, the NASCAR driver of the No. 24 DuPont Chevrolet.
The EPA selected Jeff to host a video supplement to training programs for shop owners and employees. On the DVD, Jeff explains steps to protect workers, save money and meet requirements. It is available in English and Spanish.
