Biocoat Install Automated Dip Coating Apparatus

Biocoat, Inc., maker of lubricious HYDAK hydrophilic coatings has completed installation of a new automated dip coating apparatus that allows increased coatings development capacity. Biocoat and DipTech Systems, Inc. cooperated over the past year to design and build the new coatings line, dubbed "Big Dipper."

This apparatus incorporates a number of advanced design concepts, and is capable of coating a wide range of medical devices, such as catheters, hypotubes, wires, etc. Biocoat intends to use the new line to accommodate growing customer demand for samples and process development. It will also be used to demonstrate the HYDAK coatings process and as a possible prototype available for its customers who are installing their own coatings facilities.

HYDAK technology involves the application of Biocoat's unique hydrophilic, non-thrombogenic, and anti-bacterial coatings based on the natural biopolymer hyaluronan, which has found widespread application in disposable interventional devices.
