The new Vanquish S V12 is Aston Martin’s fastest ever road car to date and makes its world debt at the Paris Motor Show on September 23. The Vanquish S boasts several changes over the Aston Martin’s flag ship model the Vanquish which push it beyond the already lofty performance levels of the Vanquish.
The 6 litre, 520hp all alloy quad overhead cam V12 propels the Vanquish S to a top speed in excess of 320km/h. The new power output compares to the Vanquish’s more then adequate 460hp. The engine benefits form a newly designed head to improve gas flow and engine remapping for further performance gains.
Exterior changes include a more open grille to aid cooling, as well as front splitter and redesigned bootlid to reduce lift and improve aerodynamics. The body itself consists of hand crafted panels and extruded aluminium anti-intrusion beams to reduce weight and ensure optimal panel fit. The aluminium panels are attached to a carbon fibre monocoque and composite front and rear crash structures.
Stopping power has been improved by increasing disc rotor sizes and utilising massive 6 piston callipers up front. Further braking enhancements are brought about by improved friction materials used in the brake pads.
The steering has also been redesigned to improve handling, while extensive use of aluminium in suspension components keep unsprung weight down. Further improvements have been made to the handling by dropping the ride height by 5mm and incorporating revised rate springs.
A number of subtle changes have also been made to the interior, although it still includes a blend of traditional materials such as leather with more modern metallic finishes.
