HORIBA Instruments and Innov-X (Woburn, MA) are pleased to announce the launch of the MESA 6000 Monochromatic XRF Analyzer. The MESA is a high performance MCXRF analyzer designed to measure the low atomic number elements Mg, Al, Si, P, S and Cl in petrochemical and hydrocarbon fluids. It features the patented diffractive optics technology originally developed by Innov-X for marine fuels analysis.
Immediate markets include the analysis of chlorine in petrochemical fluids and lubricating or insulation oils down to 1 ppm, and the analysis of sulfur content to meet ULSD requirements in diesel fuels, biodiesel blends and oxygenated fuels. A novel feature of the MESA is its ability to estimate oxygen content and automatically correct sulfur results for the presence of oxygen in diesel fuels.
"This is really a perfect partnership between the two companies" states Innov-X CEO Don Sackett. "Innov-X has deployed this state-of-the-art optics technology for marine fuel measurements with the world's largest marine shipping company A.P. Moller-Maersk. By working with HORIBA, we have adapted it to critical measurements of Cl, S and other elements in petrochemical and power-related hydrocarbons. Moreover, HORIBA has exceptionally strong distribution channels into all of these targeted markets plus tremendous market knowledge."
Mike Pohl, Vice President of HORIBA's Scientific Division, notes "We're very excited to be launching this new product. There has been a great deal of interest globally in the unit both for new applications and as a replacement to the many older generation units still being used in the field." As part of the agreement between the companies, Innov-X manufactures the MESA 6000 and HORIBA is the exclusive, global distributor for sales and service. The product carries the HORIBA name. HORIBA Instruments is a global leader in analytical instrumentation and measurement technology and is committed to developing products that raise the quality of modern life.
