Defence IQ Names Kevlar Webinar Best for 2009

A webinar given by DuPont Protection Technologies (DPT) was named by Defence IQ as the best webinar of 2009. The webinar,"MRAP Protection: Proven Under Fire," emphasized the importance of DuPont Kevlar in protecting soldiers and their MRAP (mine resistant ambush protected) vehicles from real-world threats such as rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs) and improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

Tucker Norton, DPT North American technology leader for ballistics, led the webinar for DuPont. Key contributors to the content included principal investigators Karl Chang, Dave Reichert and James Singletary.

"We were surprised and very pleased with this recognition," Tucker said. "Our DPT team put a lot into this project, and it's very satisfying to know it was so well received. We are also proud to be associated with a product like Kevlar that is known around the world and so essential to protecting the lives of our soldiers and others who protect us."

Today DuPont Kevlar is used in a number of military vehicles, including the Stryker, Bradley Fighting Vehicles and the RG33 MRAP. Most recently, 20-year-old Kevlar panels taken from Bradley Fighting Vehicles were tested and found to have performed as well as new panels, demonstrating their reliability under grueling, real-world conditions.

With its protective properties and wide range of applications, Kevlar is an example of DuPont products that are helping address the increasing global need for protective solutions.
