Franmar Chemical’s Soy-Based Products Effectively Clean Contaminated Paint in Boats

Franmar Chemical's line of soy-based products have been appreciated by workers for 25 years. They are now offering hope and help for boat owners faced with the need to clean and strip oil from their vessels.

Franmar Chemical's General Manger Dan Brown explained that boats with contaminated topcoats should be cleaned thoroughly to avoid premature fouling. When all oil and residue can not be completely cleaned and removed, boats should be stripped and repainted to avoid damage or future fouling issues. Brown indicated this process can be both toxic and time-consuming if the right products are not utilized.

"Franmar offers soy-based products that can safely and effectively clean oil residue and strip contaminated paint, offering a quicker process and an improved end result. We're working hard to get more products in the hands of those in need."

In addition to arranging for increased distribution sites, the company is offering a 25 percent discount off orders of applicable products which will be shipped, free of charge, anywhere within the continental United States.

Applicable products include:

  • Soy Strip™ Marine Coatings Remover -- removes anti-fouling paint from boats quickly and naturally.
  • Emerge Degreaser -- a natural and powerful cleaner that safely cuts through oil.
  • BEAN-e-Doo® Asphalt Remover-- effective for cleaning of tools, instruments, basins, and/or surfaces coated with thick oils.

Franmar Chemical's trained customer service team can offer product and application information.

According to Franmar President Frank Sliney, "The gulf crisis has caused a great deal of misfortune. Franmar is working to reduce the difficulty for boat owners struggling with clean up efforts. Soy products have incredible application; we believe they'll continue to show their merit."

Throughout its 25 year history, Franmar has worked closely with, and received research and development funds from, the United Soybean Board (USB). Its farmer members participate in the soybean checkoff whereby they collectively invest a portion of their profits to fund soy research and promotion.

Other soy-based products supported by the USB are also making headlines as they offer great hope in oil spill clean up efforts. Soy-based biosolvents such as CytoSol™ have already been used for oil clean up efforts and are continuing to show promise given their ability to work without harming marine environments.
