Alcoa Fastening Systems, a business unit of Alcoa Inc., today announced a major contract award with Pratt & Whitney, a division of United Technologies Corporation. The life-of-program award covers the supply of the Weld-Stud Fastening System for the F119 engine nozzle assembly used on the F/A-22 Raptor fighter aircraft. The Weld-Stud System, including its shop-floor assembly and removal tooling, was developed by Alcoa Fastening Systems product and tooling engineers with requirements defined by key Pratt & Whitney production and engineering personnel. The total value of the award approaches $17 million at projected F/A-22 build rates.
"We are thrilled to continue our valued partnership with Pratt & Whitney with this important application supporting the F119 engine program," said Rick M. Sharpe, Senior Vice President Global Customers & Marketing for Alcoa Fastening Systems. "The development of the Weld Stud Fastening System is a shining example of how our organizations can work together to concurrently engineer the best product and assembly solutions in the marketplace. It is the model for how we will continue to work with Pratt & Whitney on future applications."
