Pemco Inc., a privately held integrated metals organization, with locations in Pembroke and Ottawa, is expanding its operation into Steeltown.
The company distributes steel and related metal products primarily in East, Central and Northern Ontario, including Western Quebec. Pemco also supplies custom metal components to the housing industry through its fabrication division.
"The expansion to Hamilton will allow us to focus on providing best in class service levels and product offerings to our valued customers that operate in Southern Ontario," says President and CEO Doug Billyard.
Pemco will also move its corporate offices from Brampton to Hamilton, including executive management, sales, business development, and procurement groups.
"We are in the steel business and we can't think of a better place to operate than Hamilton. It's centre ice for us, close to our customers and within 60 minutes of the largest markets in Ontario. Location is critical to the effective and timely delivery of product and service."
Pemco will move into a 35,000 square foot plant at 1632 Burlington Street on Nov. 1. The new facility will require that the company hire up to 50 employees over time.
"We believe we will be creating employment opportunities for local residents - it's part of our long-term strategy to expand our business in Southern Ontario. We also want to build long-term relationships with vendors and suppliers that operate within the community."
Billyard says "in this new location we have a tremendous opportunity to provide our existing and potential customers with product and service levels that are unparalleled in the industry. We will build on the very effective business model that we have created in the North and develop strong partnerships with our clients in Southern Ontario."
Expansion plans will not impact Pemco's operations in Pembroke. "It's business as usual in Pembroke."
