Borouge presented its innovative and value creating plastics solutions at the ADNOC and its Group of Companies exhibition held at the UAE Pavilion in the 2010 EXPO in Shanghai, China, from October 3 to 9, 2010. The exhibition was officially opened on Sunday October 3 by ADNOC's Petrochemicals Director and Chairman of Borouge's Marketing Company, H.E. Rashed Saud Al Shamsi and the UAE's Consul General in Shanghai, H. E. Noora Juma.
During the week-long exhibition, Borouge presented its range of products with a focus on its environmentally-friendly solutions for the automotive market. Last year China became the world's largest car producer and first-half sales this year are up 47 per cent compared with the same period last year.
Together with Borealis, Borouge provides compounded polypropylene resins to the global automotive market. Part of the exhibition was the Smartfortwo, the first commercialised car to have full body panels manufactured from polypropylene. It was specifically developed to meet the stringent aesthetic, safety and environmental requirements of the manufacturer. With this innovative plastics solution, the Smartfortwo provides a significant reduction in overall vehicle weight with 15% and as such lower CO2 emissions, adding to the environmental friendliness of the car.
Earlier this year, Borouge inaugurated its manufacturing plant in Shanghai, with an annual capacity of 50,000 tonnes for compounding resins specifically for the growing automotive and appliance industries, and is now planning a second compounding plant, more than twice the size, to be built in Guangzhou.
China has become the single largest market for polyethylene and polypropylene with approximately 30 million tonnes set to be consumed in 2010 and therefore is an important market for Borouge, a leading provider of innovative plastics solutions for pipe systems, wires and cables, automotive components and advanced packaging.
Borouge is a joint venture between ADNOC, one of the world's largest oil and gas companies, and Austria based Borealis, a leading provider of chemical and innovative plastics solutions.
