Brightstar Receives 2010 Green Supply Chain Award from SDCE Magazine

Brightstar Corp., a global leader in services and solutions for the wireless industry, has been selected to receive the 2010 Green Supply Chain award from Supply & Demand Chain Executive (SDCE) magazine.

The award recognizes Brightstar's efforts in making green or sustainability a core part of its supply chain strategy as well as providing supply chain solutions and services that assist its customers achieve measurable sustainability goals. Supply & Demand Chain Executive selected winners from nearly 120 online submissions based on the clarity and content of the goals and strategy, the extent of the steps being taken, and the impact of the results.

"It is an honor to be recognized for our commitment to reduce the carbon footprint of our operations and our success in helping customers achieve their environmental sustainability goals through the services we provide," said Sally Lange, president of retail services at Brightstar. "As a supply chain and distribution provider within the wireless ecosystem, one of our top goals is to ensure customers' distribution networks are optimized across supply chains, packaging, carrier selection and routing, thereby eliminating redundancies and conserving resources."

Brightstar enables companies to meet supply chain sustainability in areas that include:

  • Sourcing/Procurement: Actively source materials that reduce environmental impact and maintain or improve level of performance.
  • Fulfillment/Logistics: Analyze processes, materials, requirements and other critical points, and then identify gaps and how to remediate them.
  • Packaging: Develop more environmentally friendly packaging. Brightstar has introduced a new packaging concept that reduces plastic content by 60 percent, uses recyclable paper and shrinks overall packaging volume by 30 percent over traditional clamshell packages for wireless products.

Brightstar is also a founding member of Consumer Electronics Association's "Green Project" and is working with companies in the wireless industry to promote eco-friendly business practices and sustainability initiatives. Brightstar was also recently nominated for the Illinois Recycling Association's 2010 Outstanding Business Recycling/Waste Reduction Award by the Solid Waste Agency of Lake County, IL.
