New Slip-Resistant Materials from Florock for Concrete Resurfacing Applications

Two new slip-resistant aggregates in the Florock Industrial Flooring line, glass beads and Shark Skin (finely graded, clear plastic particles), allow for easier installation, thereby reducing labor costs for many concrete resurfacing applications.

The new materials, when added to a pail of liquid floor paint, remain evenly suspended, allowing the technician to roll out the floor coating and aggregate simultaneously. The result is a less expensive, one-step safety floor with more evenly distributed slip-resistance than is achievable with standard methods.

Slip reistant epoxy floor

In contrast, white aluminum oxide aggregate, the traditional slip-resistance material of choice, is much heavier and does not stay suspended in the container of concrete paint. Installation requires an experienced technician using a special device to evenly broadcast the grit throughout the wet epoxy coating. This is typically followed by painting a topcoat of epoxy or urethane, to ensure proper encapsulation of the medium.

Aluminum oxide, due to its exceptional hardness, will always have a place in heavy duty flooring applications. However, glass beads and Shark Skin, by eliminating the need for extra installation steps, offer exciting new options for many facilities concerned with slip-and-fall workplace accidents, as well as their bottom line.
