Global hydrogen supplier, Air Products has proclaimed that it will increase its hydrogen supply to Marathon Petroleum’s refinery located in Garyville, Louisiana to fulfill the production requirements.
The increased hydrogen supply from Air Products will happen in two phases with the first supply in 2011 and the next in 2012. The company will raise the existing level of supply from its hydrogen pipeline in the Gulf Coast and the hydrogen plant in Garyville to Marathon’s refinery by nearly 25 million standard cubic ft. every day.
Earlier, Air Products had declared its plans to build a new 180-mile pipeline extension in the Gulf Coast. The new pipeline, which is currently in the project execution stage, will link the company’s hydrogen system in Louisiana to the hydrogen system in Texas. Once completed, the company’s hydrogen pipeline network will extend from New Orleans to the Houston Ship Channel in Texas.
Air Products’ integrated pipeline network will connect more than 600 miles of pipelines and more than 20 hydrogen plants. The network will supply more than one billion cubic ft. of hydrogen every day to the Texas and Louisiana petrochemical industries and refineries. The new hydrogen pipeline system in the Gulf Coast is slated for operation in 2012.
