Pioneer in specialty chemicals, LANXESS has introduced a highly soft polyamide 6 material called Durethan BC 700 HTS. It exhibits only 210 MPa of elasticity modulus. The non-reinforced polyamide can be used as a single-material solution for producing charge air tubes with built-in bellows utilizing extrusion blow molding.
The Durethan BC 700 HTS demonstrates superior sealing characteristics and thus charge air tubes produced by it can be mounted to air intake manifolds and charge air coolers with the help of a single bracket. This mounting eradicates the requirement of extra sealing rings and prevents leakage.
Under the OEM testing standards, LANXESS’ new polyamide 6 material demonstrated better resistance to acidic condensates, fuels and oils when compared to elastomer block copolyamides and thermoplastic polyester elastomers that are utilized in the production of blow molding charge air tubes. Thus the new material can withstand blow-by gas and exhaust gas condensates effectively than competitive materials.
The Durethan BC 700 HTS exhibits better thermal aging stability than competitive products, including polyester elastomers and specific blends of polyolefins and polyamide utilized in the production of flexible blow molding tubes.
The polyamide 6 material has high melt stiffness, allowing smooth extrusion of parison. The material is also suitable for producing parts for injection molding such as multi-flexible hose connections. It showed positive results when tested on series molds.
