MesoCoat, a subsidiary of Abakan specializing in advanced coating solutions, has begun the construction of a new $6 million worth facility in Euclid, Ohio.
This is a significant initiative by Abakan to bring its new wear protection and corrosion resistant coatings to the market. The plant will support production, testing and commercialization of new series of breakthrough products.
The CermaClad cladding process will be included in the facility to produce nearly 10,000 m2 of coated, corrosion-resistant pipes, clad tubes, and plates every year. The Ohio-based plant will also include modern blasting and testing machines for producing these advanced products. In addition, a thermal spray system will be installed to commercialize and qualify the company’s PComP nanocomposite ceramic-metallic coatings for use in oil and gas, chemical processing, aerospace and mining sectors.
The CermaClad process protects large metal surface areas from highly corrosive and harsh environments. It is cost-effective and clads 15 to100 times faster than competitive cladding procedures. The CermaClad cladding process also reduces lead times by 75% to 80%. It uses an artificial sun to bond ceramic coatings, protective alloys and metals on plates, bars and steel pipes.
The construction of the Euclid plant is expected to be completed by August, 2011 and the production will begin at the end of 2011. MesoCoat has also made provisions for further capacity expansion.
