Siemens VAI Metals Technologies has announced that it is building a new rolling mill for Viraj Profiles in Tarapur, India for the production of stainless steel light and bar profiles. Viraj Profiles is the world’s second major manufacturer of stainless steel long products.
Siemens VAI is offering design, engineering and supply of automation, electrical and mechanical equipment to the facility, which is slated for operation during the beginning of 2012. The integrated steel manufacturer, Viraj Profiles is constructing the rolling mill to expand its offerings and production capacity. The company plans to use the new facility to strengthen its footprint in the stainless-steel light profiles market.
The Tarapur facility will manufacture stainless steel products at an annual capacity of 180,000 tons. Siemens VAI in partnership with its Indian subsidiary, Morgan Construction, is constructing the facility. Siemens VAI is offering full rolling equipment line and supplementary tools for the facility.
The rolling line comprises an eight-stand intermediate mill, a single sliding-stand roughing mill and a ten-stand finishing mill with transfer and shearing systems. The rolling line is complete with a finishing and straightening area that comprises equipment for strapping, wrapping and sawing the rolling stock. Siemens VAI’s rolling stands are using Red Ring technology and offer twist-free rolling. The non-contact optical ProScan metering system will ensure the quality of the stands.
Morgan Construction is delivering the hydraulic and lubrication systems, equipment for transferring the rolling stands, roller tables, related stacking and transfer system, a 60-m cooling bed and the furnace charging. Siemens India is providing extensive engineering solutions along with automation and electrical equipment.
