Winpak Portion Packaging, Winpak’s rigid packaging business division, will construct a new production plant in the greater Chicago. The company has planned to spend US$30 million for this expansion.
The new manufacturing plant will be located in Sauk Village and will generate 40 new jobs instantly. The company will recruit more staff in the future.
Mayor Lewis Towers mentioned that Sauk Village is an ideal location as several local people in the manufacturing field are losing their jobs. He added that the expansion project will provide economic growth to their region.
Winpak Portion Packaging’s President, James McMacken expressed his pleasure in expanding their operations in the Illinois state. For the past four decades, the company has been operating a plant in South Chicago Heights that manufactures cups and trays for food and beverage industries.
The new manufacturing plant will be constructed on a site measuring 28 acres. The initial size of the plant will be 267,000 square feet with an expansion possibility of up to 600,000 square feet. The construction of the plant is scheduled to be completed in February 2012.
It was reported that the Illinois state has offered $1.6 million to support the project. The aid package will be managed by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Development. The administration includes Employer Training Investment Program job training funds to improve the skill of the firm’s employees and the Economic Development for a Growing community tax credits that are based on job creation.
